If there is one value we hold above all else, it is the training and education of our crew. At Killjoy, we are committed to learning as much as we can about our craft so that we can make the best drinks possible for our guests. Our employees have acquired a wealth of knowledge from working in the industry, and we help them continue to build on their skills with our own in-house training program.

Our bartenders go through three programs during training: spirits tasting, technique, and service. Within these programs, we cover topics such as flavor profiles, blind spirit identification, cocktail history (worldwide and local), shaking vs. stirring, the different kinds of ice and their applications, verbal judo, the importance of cleanliness, and the rest of the magic that goes on behind our velvet curtains.
Additionally, we’d like to shout out our neighbor bars for the awesome online experiences both novice and advanced home bartenders can use to learn more about the trade!
Beloved Raleigh cocktail bar Dram & Draught has been holding virtual cocktail classes since they were forced to close their doors in March due to the coronavirus pandemic, and haven’t been able to open since. On Monday, August 17 they will be holding a tequila tasting with co-founder Kevin Barrett both in-person and through Google Meet, with all proceeds benefiting The Green Chair Project.
Additionally, The Wine Feed is hosting virtual wine education classes throughout the month of August each focusing on different types of wine.
